Talk:Foxmarks: Known Bugs
From Foxmarks Wiki
Possible Issue or just suggestion
Need a way to disable or change Foxmarks hot keys. I have another extension that uses shift + ctrl + f and a few others. Would be nice to be able to at least configure the hot keys and/or their usability.
Another Syncing Problem
I was using the Firefox Beta 3 foxmarks on my Firefox 2.0.0.14 browser at home and I noticed that I was having problems syncing.
[2008-05-26 17:54:29] ------ Foxmarks/2.0.44.20 () starting sync with sync.foxmarks.com ------ [2008-05-26 17:54:30] >>> POST http://sync.foxmarks.com/sync/bookmarks/getchanges [2008-05-26 17:54:30] >>> Body is: {"baserev":52,"log":{"mid":"fgd3h35s"}} [2008-05-26 17:54:30] network request failed; status is 804b0046 [2008-05-26 17:54:30] Returned error: Unknown error 70(2152398918) [2008-05-26 17:54:30] Will retry at Mon May 26 2008 18:09:43 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time) [2008-05-26 18:10:30] ------ Foxmarks/2.0.44.20 () starting sync with sync.foxmarks.com ------ [2008-05-26 18:10:30] >>> POST http://sync.foxmarks.com/sync/bookmarks/getchanges [2008-05-26 18:10:30] >>> Body is: {"baserev":52,"retry":1,"log":{"mid":"fgd3h35s"}} [2008-05-26 18:10:30] network request failed; status is 804b0046 [2008-05-26 18:10:30] Returned error: Unknown error 70(2152398918) [2008-05-26 18:10:30] Will retry at Mon May 26 2008 18:40:36 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time) [2008-05-26 18:24:29] ------ Foxmarks/2.0.44.20 () starting sync with sync.foxmarks.com ------
I then had to go into the preferences and re-input my password after that it worked the last Foxmarks sync above is the one that worked. I was on the internet during this whole time and it just showed the animation at the bottom that Foxmarks was trying to sync. I don't know if there is a better way to error check or at least notify that there was a failure without having to always go check the logs.
Constantly Thinking Bookmarks Have Changed
Firefox 2.0.0.12 Foxmarks 2.0.43. Running foxmarks on 3 browsers. Since I udated all my browsers to 2.0.43 they all constantly think my bookmarks have changed when they haven't. I have tried uploading (overwrite remote) from 1 browser and downloading (overwrite local) to the other 2. That only helped for 1 browsing session on all PCs. What are the criteria Foxmarks uses to check if the local bookmarks have changed? What can I do to fix this? Thanks! Silkshadow 15:29, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- There's been some discussion of this over at the Foxmarks blog, but it basically comes down to another Firefox extension making Foxmarks think there have been batch changes made. Foxmarks listens for messages in Firefox saying that bookmarks have been changed, and these messages come in two types--single bookmark changes, which are quite reliable, and bulk changes, which aren't very reliable. We've opted to "believe" all bulk change notifications, even though there appear to be many other extensions which falsely broadcast bulk change notifications--there's really no danger in Foxmarks believing there are changes to synchronize, so we feel this is the correct action. However, we're looking into possible fixes for future releases, including a possible option for disabling bulk change recognition. For now, though, if you can give us an idea why it's bad that it thinks you have changes, that'd help a bunch. Thanks! --Foxworth 18:24, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
First of all thank you very much for replying! I am both surprised and very happy to see you are reading this wiki, thanks! Well the reason its bad is because, if you look at the article page and my last posting there (its at the top) Foxmarks locks up firefox and takes time to do the sync. I've come to the point where I have gotten somewhat used to it when it has to do it once in a while. But now its doing it on every browsing session and its no longer tolerable. I have had to set foxmarks to only sync on close and to ask me. However, I can't remember every time if I actually changed my bookmarks or not. So now I run into situations where I am no longer getting bookmarks synchronized as it should be.
Case in point, I added a bookmark several days ago on one computer late at night (actually early in the morning) I was looking at 4 hours of sleep. I was in a hurry to sleep, hit do not sync (as I had added that bookmark hours ago and forgot and I am also in the habit of hitting do not sync because its become irritating) and shut down the computer. This is not a computer I browse on daily. I had switched to it while my other computer was booting to check something online. Then switched back to my normal desktop when it finished booting. Fast forward 3 days later and I'm at a client meeting and they ask me a question which is what I looked up and added a bookmark for. Its not on my laptop because it didn't sync. I looked like an idiot. In no way am I blaming foxmarks for that, but as you can see this bug lead to this situation. Silkshadow 07:10, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Check out DisableDirtyOnBatch for the ability to disable the feature causing this behavior. --Foxworth 18:50, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! I will give it a try and post back. Silkshadow 04:01, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Cancel adding bookmark = change anyway
On FF3, hit ctrl-D and then cancel, Bookmarks remain unchanged. However, FoxMarks will consider bookmarks changed and attempt to sync.
- This is expected--Firefox 3 actually adds the bookmark before you hit cancel, and then deletes it when you cancel, so your bookmarks have changed. Since Firefox 3 doesn't provide a, "Whoops, that change was reverted" message, we have no way of knowing that there's been no cumulative change that's taken place. --Foxworth 19:47, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Keywords in Bookmarks
Adding keywords to bookmarks (so you can just type the keyword in the address bar) results in synchronisation which seems to strip the keyword from the bookmark and you're back at square one.
Danieldainty 11:57, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting, I've never seen that behavior. Can you provide full steps on how to replicate it? --Foxworth 18:49, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
And Yet Another Set of Synchronization Errors
First, thanks for the excellent software. I have Foxmarks on a MacBook (OS 10.4.11) and a wintel (Win XP Pro, auto-updated). Both have Firefox 2.0.0.11 and foxmarks 2.0.34 (also tried the beta). The problem started with:
[2008-01-22 18:18:44] Notify(({status:1, msg:"Writing to sync file..."})) [2008-01-22 18:18:44] >>> POST http://sync.foxmarks.com/sync/bookmarks/putchanges [2008-01-22 18:18:44] >>> Body is: [stuff deleted for sanity] [2008-01-22 18:18:45] >> onStreamComplete with status Operation successful, 71 bytes. [2008-01-22 18:18:45] >>> Callback(({status:400, message:"'attempt to create duplicate node 0NUQu1'"}) [2008-01-22 18:18:45] Notify(({status:400, msg:"Unknown error 400"})) [2008-01-22 18:18:45] Returned error: Unknown error 400(400) [2008-01-22 18:18:45] Will retry at Tue Jan 22 2008 18:48:55 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time) [2008-01-22 18:18:45] putchanges failed; response is 400
and as auto-synch continued the failed the error changed to:
[2008-01-23 19:00:58] >>> Applying server changes to baseline. [2008-01-23 19:00:58] updating 6NUQu1 [2008-01-23 19:00:58] execute failed: (new Error("Failed executing command ({action: [again deleted for sanity] [don't know why this box appears, sorry] bnid:\"6NUQu1\"}); error is (new Error(\"Node not found: 6NUQu1\", \"chrome://foxmarks/content/foxmarks-nodes.js\", 393))", "chrome://foxmarks/content/foxmarks-nodes.js", 575)) [2008-01-23 19:00:58] Notify(({status:3, msg:"Synchronization error"})) [2008-01-23 19:00:58] Returned error: Synchronization error(3) [2008-01-23 19:00:58] Will retry at Wed Jan 23 2008 19:16:05 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)
and now:
[2008-02-06 15:56:54] execute failed: (new Error("Failed executing command ({action:\"update\", args:{visited:1201119485, modified:1201044425, nid:\"6NUQu1\"}); error is (new Error(\"Node not found: 6NUQu1\", \"chrome://foxmarks/content/foxmarks-nodes.js\", 405))", "chrome://foxmarks/content/foxmarks-nodes.js", 587))
[2008-02-06 15:56:54] Returned error: Synchronization error(3)
Note that the failing node number changes (hopefully it is in bold above). It appears that a node in 0some type of trie initially could not be written, but the re-try failed. Now the error is propagating down the trie. I've sent the log separately. As I don't want to smash the existing data structure, and I have un-synched changes on both computers, I'm not sure what to do next.
thanks very much, --Lensman 22:40, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Have you tried the solution suggested at Foxmarks: Error: Unknown error 400? I suspect it'll work here as well. --Foxworth 00:27, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
And Another Synchronization Error (actually, 2 different ones)
I have FoxMarks on 2 machines:
HOME: Mac OS X 10.4.11 FireFox 2.0.0.4 FoxMarks 2.0.34
WORK: Windows XP Pro, SP2 FireFox 2.0.0.11 FoxMarks 2.0.34
Seems to work fine at HOME. Worked fine with older (1.x?) version of FoxMarks at WORK, but the last update to FoxMarks at WORK broke it ...
What I get on automatic sync:

- Sorry for the trouble there; the first problem is solved by either downloading your bookmarks from the server, or uploading them to the server (which way you go depends on whether the computer you're attempting to synchronize is up-to-date with regard to other computers). Basically, what seems to've happened is that an earlier synchronization succeeded, but the connection was dropped before your Foxmarks extension could get the revision number update, so there's a mis-match. As for the 2nd error, that's just due to the servers currently being overwhelmed; trying during the evening might help there. (For more details on the server overload, see our blog.) --Foxworth 22:24, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Another Synchronization Error
I have not been able to synchronise my bookmarks for some time as well now, the error log ends with the following:

I'm using Foxmarks version 2.0.34 with Firefox 2.0.0.11.
Any help appreciated! Cheers, Cel 01:36, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this up--we've seen this once before, but we haven't quite figured out what's causing it, and unfortunately the logging information in the default extension isn't sufficient to determine the problem. If you don't mind, please try installing the extension via this URL: http://jezebel.foxmarks.com/foxmarks-2.0.34-debug.xpi (copy-and-paste it into your Firefox address field to install), then try synchronizing again, and then send us your foxmarks.log file as detailed on the Foxmarks: Sending us your Log File page. Thanks! --Foxworth 23:34, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Synchronization Error
This is not the same as below. Each time Foxmarks tries to sync with the Foxmarks server, it give me the message: Synchronization Error. As a result, my bookmarks have not been synchronized since 1st Dec. I initially thought it may be just connection with the server issue (as can be the case). I checked the Log file and none of it makes sense.
I'm using Foxmarks version 2.0.30 with Firefox 2.0.0.11. Below is some of the log info from the last attempt to sync:

Any ideas? I've tried removing it and putting it back on. The Synced bookmarks are all present and correct on the server. This version also seams to be working fine on my laptop.
- Is that the last line in the logfile? Usually if you get a Synchronization Error, there'll be a last line that indicates what the error was, whereas the line you included is just one of the actions it's taking during synchronization. We're happy to look into this further if you can email us your entire logfile following the instructions at Foxmarks: Sending us your Log File -- if you can include your Foxmarks username and anything interesting you see on the Error Console, that'd be a big help as well. Thanks! --Foxworth 17:54, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Synchronization problem
When I try to force uploading bookmarks to the server a messagebox appears with "Status: not found" text. In the log I found this line:

- Hm, that looks bad. Thanks for reporting it, though--we think we know what's causing it (a bookmark name or description that's longer than we expected), and we're working on a fix for that error. In the meantime, if there's a bookmark or folder you've recently added that has a very long name or description, making it shorter would probably fix the problem. (If you find which one caused it, can you send us the text you were trying to upload? Thanks!) --Foxworth 19:36, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Internet Explorer - No Scrollbar
Brilliant software, thanks!
At work i'm forced to use Internet Explorer 6.0. When logged into http://my.foxmarks.com there is no scrollbar - so it's only possible to view bookmarks at the top of the page.
a fix would be very much appreciated.
thanks Glen
Password Retention?

Probs. with Live365
Dear Anyone
I find Firefox, very new though I am to it, an excellent piece of software. The only prob. I've found is, when I got to any streaming radio station (usually Live365) the player never finds the music, though it finds the music fine in Explorer. In Firefox, the player just searches and searches and never finds anything.
Anybody any idea what I've done wrong??
Yours musically

After I syn'ed my bookmarks, I've got 2 copies of every bookmark on my pc. I syn'ed with the notebook and only 1 copy appears. How do I get rid of the double bookmarks?
Password Retention
I am having the same usability problem that Tim is above.
Is there a way to make this work without having to log-on to the browser each time it is started? I already have to sign on to my userid, I don't want to have to sign on to the browser for each use (many times a day). For now my solution is to disable foxmarks. I like the idea but the requirement to enter a password every time I start the browser is too much.

Fail registering google email in user name
I have email with dot inside my GMail account After I changed user name on my Gmail - Foxmarks cant allow dot in user name, but Google allow it.
Bug #9297
Foxmarks doesn't do a auto-sync if Firefox is opened, a bookmark is changed and then Firefox is shutdown within 60secs.
Since I've got an email that this has been resolved. I'd like to know as to when an updated Foxmark is getting released?
Thanks. --Quatermass 08:00, 21 July 2007 (EDT)
Is there way to undo synchronization and get back what I had on my local file before it? In other words, does foxmarks make an backup file?
Disappearing Folders
I'm running MS Vista Enterprise on one of my PCs that, upon FoxMark synchronization, causes the display of folders to disappear. If I choose "organize bookmarks" and move something around (i.e., move a folder to a different location and then back) the folders reappear. The folders don't really disappear - only the folder icon and wording, along with flyout for folder content are not visible. The spacing for the folders exists and I can click on a folder and it will open all the contents of the folder (correct behavior) - I just can't see the name of the folder, the text of the folder, or the contents of the folder.
I confirmed this as a FoxMarks issue by organizing the bookmarks (which I assume re-writes the XML) to display the folders and then manually requesting a synchronization, which caused the folders to "disappear" again.
I'm using Foxmarks 1.0.1 and Firefox 2.0.0.8.
Note, this only happens on the machine running Vista. I have a machine still running XP and do not have this issue.

- Yoinks! That doesn't sound so great. Our experience in the past suggests this might be something between Vista and Firefox—Foxmarks doesn't have much control over the display of bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager, though sometimes there can be tertiary effects. If you're up for it, you might try installing the new release of the Foxmarks extension (details here) and see if you still get the same behavior. Thanks!! --Foxworth 18:50, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
No Joy with the new version. I'm sure it is something between Vista and Firefox - I guess I can try and do a diff between pre-sync and post-sync and see if I can find the difference. Stay tuned.
Ubuntu not synchronizing
I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 and Firefox 2.0.0.8. I have a problem where foxmarks does not want to sync, it just sits there with its status box doing nothing. I use two other computers (win 2000 and XP) and they sync just fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and its just the same. Its a great add-on, if anyone could help that would be great - thanks Vegieman 11.26 - 29 oct 2007
- If I remember correctly, you wrote an email to support and we resolved this. Now if only I could remember what the resolution was... --Foxworth 20:00, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Failed to parse sync file
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but when running Foxmarks version 1.0.1 on Firefox version 2.0.0.9 on my Mac 10.4.10 and on my Windows XP machines, I get a failure message when trying to sync saying: "Status: Failed to parse sync file"
The end of the log file says:

[2007-11-10 20:20:35] Returned error: Failed to parse sync file(1000)
I found this error in a Fixed Bug section, but it seems to have been fixed a while ago. Is it back?
Found the fix for this at: http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmarks:_Error:_Failed_to_parse_sync_file
Large grey box on screen, and settings not working
I have just upgraded to version 2.0.30 on Danish language Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.9, and I get a grey area in the bottom of my screen, about one third of the screen in size. In it is the following text:
<menu id="foxmarks-menuitem" label="Foxmarks" class="menu-iconic"
_________^
<menuitem label="&dialog.label.syncNow; "
_________^
I try going to the settings for Foxmarks, but that gives me a yellow error box with a mixture of Danish and English. Translated, the error is something like this:
XML parsing error: undefined entity address: chrome://foxmarks/content/foxmarks-dialog.xul line 17, column 1:
refwindow id="foxmarks-settings"
I have tried disabling all other extensions and themes I have installed, and the problem persists, so I don't think it's a conflict with other installed extensions. It is, of course, rather annoying, and I'll have to disable Foxmarks until it is fixed, which hopefully is soon, as I really love the extension.

- Thanks for pointing this out; it appears under the Danish language version there is a slight bug that we hadn't found before launch. For now the best solution is to download a version with Danish localization turned off, which can be done here. We hope to get this fixed for Danish localization very soon--sorry for the trouble! --Foxworth 14:47, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Works perfectly, thank you very much! Lilac Soul 08:04, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Bookmarks completely wiped out
Hi everybody
Just upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.9, I am also running foxmarks v2.0.30. During the cause of the upgrade something must have gone wrong as now all my bookmarks are missing. There are not bookmarks.html files in the firefox profile folder either. When I tried to resynchronize from the server there was nothing there. Very strange. Unfortunately my work PC was just changed, so I have no backup there either. Any ideas how to get them back? Clearly I would really appreciate that ;-)! Thanks!
Martin
- Yikes! Please write to support@foxmarks.com with your Foxmarks username and any other details if you're not able to get your backups as recommended at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks --Foxworth 02:25, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Foxmarks downloading wrong version of bookmarks to machine
When I ask to 'download now' from the server onto my machine, it updates my bookmarks with an older version, and not the version that is currently archived in my account's file (the ones on the server are fine, but the local bookmarks won't update). Blast 02:11, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- This happens when you're using Version 2 on one computer, and Version 1 on another--check out your My Foxmarks page, and if it has a small "V2" in the upper left corner, your server bookmarks are version 2, and you should upgrade all your browsers to Version 2 to see the same bookmarks everywhere. See our blog post for more information on how to upgrade. --Foxworth 17:52, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Sync on Shutdown preferences not persistent
Hello y'all I have my Foxmarks preferences set to ask me if I want to sync my bookmarks before shutting down Firefox if they aren't synchronized.. sometimes I'm in a hurry and don't want to wait or don't need to sync and I answer no ("not this time")... the problem is that this seems to affect the general settings since everytime I answer NO, even without the "Don't ask again" (or something like that) checkmark unchecked, I'm not asked again on further shutdowns if I want to sync even if my bookmarks aren't synched. In other words, the "don't ask again" checkmark doesn't seem to be working for me, as it behaves as if it was always checked. I'm running on Ubuntu 7.10, but I think this also happens on Windows.
- That would seem to be unintentional. Which version of the Foxmarks extension are you using? --Foxworth 19:02, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
v2.0.32 ... Confirmed bug under Windows. I answered "no" the first time (without ticking the checkmark) and on subsequent restarts/shutdowns I wasn't asked anymore.. have you confirmed it ? Actually the result on settings afterwards was strange: screenshot .. As you can see the SYNC ON SHUTDOWN checkmark is no longer checked and the ASK FIRST is disabled, as expected, but checked, just as I had left it before answering NO on the first time.. I hope I'm making myself clear.. --Dekaru 22:07, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Unknown error 400
I upgraded to Foxmarks 2 on XP and everything went well, it seemed. Then I upgraded on my OSX(ppc) too, and when I try to sync I get "Unknown error 400". Didn't try on Linux yet.
From the logs:

--Lo'oris 13:53, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yikes! The one fix we expect will work with this is to export your bookmarks, then re-import them, then try synchonizing again (or just download from the Foxmarks server if your bookmark collections are already in sync). It appears that Firefox thinks one of your bookmarks is in a folder that the Foxmarks extension can't find. If possible, we'd also be interested to see your full foxmarks.log file; you can send it to us by following the instructions found at Foxmarks: Sending us your Log File. Thanks! --Foxworth 21:53, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
502 Error
I was using Foxmarks 1.X with Firefox 2.0.0.11 within a corporate firewall setting, and it was working fine. At home last night, I updated my two machines to Foxmarks 2.0.34, and they worked fine - outside of a firewall setting.
I updated my work machine to Foxmarks 2.0.34, and am unable to sync from work. I get the dreaded "502" error.
Obviously, with a 2.X release as opposed to the 1.x release, many things have changed. Something is amiss with the proxy handling - I'd love to have it fixed. Or... Can I get Foxmarks 1.X again and use that until the proxy settings issues are fixed?
NOTE: This is KILLING me! I hadn't realized how much I had come to rely on Foxmarks!!!
ANOTHER NOTE: I wish now that I hadn't upgraded. Foxmarks 1.X worked perfectly for me. Now, I cannot sync correctly even at home with no proxy.

- I'm really sorry this has been such frustration for you; I suspect Foxmarks: Error: Forbidden might have the information you need to work around this problem. If that doesn't work, please write to support@foxmarks.com with more details, and you can downgrade to version 1 by checking out the "Release Notes" page in the left column (the various versions are downloadable from there). Again, our apologies! --Foxworth 21:57, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Bookmarks in Toolbar Folder get wiped by synchronization
While the icons on the bookmarks toolbar remained, their content is completely empty.
The same happened to all other bookmarks that are not inside a folder (are on the main bookmarks menu).
Same happened on both synchronized computers,
one with Linux/firefox 2.0.0.5,
the other with Vista/firefox 2.0.0.9
- That's something new to me. Can you send us the contents of your foxmarks.log file, as detailed in Foxmarks: Sending us your Log File? Thanks! --Foxworth 19:36, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for pointing that out; we'll see if we can get that text to wrap in a future release. --Foxworth 17:52, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
CSS error: "Sync Now" Bookmarks Manager overlay fails. Fix provided.
Occurs under
I cannot say this for all themes, but definitely under certain themes (e.g. GNOME), in Firefox 2.0.0.6 in Linux, the following error happens:
Symptoms
In the bookmarks manager toolbar, the "sync now" icon does not appear unless the mouse is hovering over it. Instead of the appropriate icon, the original theme's default icon appears. This icon is (usually, depending on how the theme is designed) an amalgamation of all the normal icons in all the possible variants: disabled, enabled, active, hover, etc... .
Needless to say this is confusing, as well as unattractive and incorrect.
Explanation
This is a CSS error. The theme in question assigns its background image for this toolbar with:
#bookmark-window toolbarbutton {
list-style-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/bookmarks/Bookmarks-toolbar.png");
-moz-box-orient: vertical;
min-width: 57px;
padding: 5px;
}
/* Other buttons */
/* new folder */
toolbarbutton#newfolder {
-moz-image-region: rect(0px 48px 24px 24px);
}
toolbarbutton#newfolder:hover {
-moz-image-region: rect(24px 48px 48px 24px);
}
toolbarbutton#newfolder:hover:active {
padding: 6px 4px 4px 6px;
}
toolbarbutton#newfolder[disabled="true"] {
-moz-image-region: rect(48px 48px 72px 24px) !important;
}
Where Bookmarks-toolbar.png is the large image that comes up when it's not supposed to.
This differs from the way Foxmarks assigns the background images, not only in approach, but also in the CSS:
toolbarbutton#foxmarks-bm-sync {
list-style-image: url("chrome://foxmarks/skin/images/foxmarks-default.png");
}
Note that in the above CSS, there is no #bookmark-window before the toolbarbutton.
This causes the wrong behavior to manifest itself. For whatever reasons (either proper CSS interpretation or Firefox bugginess), the original theme's background, which has been coded with #bookmark-window toolbarbutton supersedes the #foxmarks-bm-sync id when there is no :hover or :hover:active subclass to follow it.
Fix
Fortunately, regardless of whether or not Firefox's CSS is doing the right thing, there is a straightforward fix for this bug that does not depend on any hacks: add the #bookmark-window id before any toolbarbutton CSS entries. The resulting CSS should look like this:
#bookmark-window toolbarbutton#foxmarks-bm-sync {
list-style-image: url("chrome://foxmarks/skin/images/foxmarks-default.png");
}
#bookmark-window toolbarbutton#foxmarks-bm-sync:hover {
list-style-image: url("chrome://foxmarks/skin/images/foxmarks-hover.png");
}
#bookmark-window toolbarbutton#foxmarks-bm-sync:hover:active {
list-style-image: url("chrome://foxmarks/skin/images/foxmarks-active.png");
}

Foxmarks Mobile redirects to homepage after login
Hey gang. I use Formarks mobile (my.foxmarks.com/mobile) as the homepage on my PSP. It used to have me login, then went straight to my bookmarks. Now after I login it goes to the Foxmarks homepage. I then have to reload the home button to get to my bookmarks. I don't know why this changed, but it's really annoying. Any chance of a fix to put it the way it was? Thanks.
FTP Connection Issue when "Remember This Password.." checked
Updated to 2.0.46.9 yesterday. Firefox 2.0.0.14
I have been having this issue on and off for the last day. Same issue, two different Macs. When I used the check-box it worked for a few hours while trying to get my three Macs synched. Finally got them all connecting and synching. Then one kept getting FTP connection errors. Out of desperation I tried unchecking the "Remember..." box and it connected and synced just fine. Checked the box and same FTP errors. Other Mac showed same behaviour this morning; had to uncheck box to connect. It's almost as though checking Remember initiates a "forget".rossasaurus

Tag References Not Deleted on Synchronization
Background
In Firefox 3, when deleting a bookmark normally (e.g., from the bookmarks sidebar) all references to its tags are also deleted from the places.sqlite database. In addition, if you delete all the bookmarks associated with a tag, that tag is also deleted from the database. These deletions are not done with triggers, so they have to be done manually by the application.
Syncronization Issue
The problem with Foxmarks is as follows. Say you delete a bookmark that has a tag associated with it. Then you synch with Foxmarks. Then you go to another computer and synch that with Foxmarks. The deleted bookmark will be gone from the second computer, but the reference to its tag will remain. This is noticeable if you are using the TagSifter extension, which will display the bookmark with no title. It is not noticeable otherwise, but it still clutters up the database, which could eventually hurt performance.
Steps to Reproduce
- Have a bookmark with at least one tag synchronized on two computers (or profiles).
- Delete the bookmark from one computer.
- Open Firefox on the other computer and synchronize with Foxmarks.
- Open the TagSifter sidebar or run the following query on the places.sqlite table.
SELECT DISTINCT B.id FROM moz_bookmarks AS B INNER JOIN moz_places AS P ON B.fk = P.id WHERE B.parent IN ( SELECT id FROM moz_bookmarks WHERE parent = 4 ) AND NOT EXISTS ( SELECT MARK.id FROM moz_bookmarks AS TAG INNER JOIN moz_places AS P ON TAG.fk = P.id INNER JOIN moz_bookmarks AS MARK ON P.id = MARK.fk WHERE TAG.parent IN ( SELECT id FROM moz_bookmarks WHERE parent = 4 ) AND MARK.parent NOT IN ( SELECT id FROM moz_bookmarks WHERE parent = 4 ) AND TAG.id = B.id )
Conclusion
This is not a huge problem, since I can run a query to delete those extra items, but I feel it is a bug and I need to report it. I would be willing to provide the relevant database queries if that would help you out. I am running Firefox 3.0 with Foxmarks 2.1.0.12.
—ScreamAndGrowl 00:00, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out. We actually think that Firefox should take care of this and have filed a bug to that effect. --Todd 00:31, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- Good move filing a bug. I haven't gotten into working on Firefox extensions or digging into the Firefox source; I have only poked around in the places database enough to understand how bookmarks and tags are stored. It only makes sense that deleting a bookmark should clean up all of its traces. Note that it is not just unused tags that remain but also what I call "tag references", which are entries in the moz_bookmarks table that connect the bookmark to the tag. —ScreamAndGrowl 01:54, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Doubled bookmarks also
I have the same problem - after sync - 2 of everything. Is there a way to eliminate the duplicates, other than one at a time manually? XPPro, Firefox V3.0 and Foxmarks V2.1.0.12
- It's strange that you'd have doubled bookmarks unless you've recently restored your bookmarks from a Firefox backup. If you need to eliminate duplicates, though, the easiest way I know of in Firefox 3 is to go to http://my.foxmarks.com/, use Grid View, then click on the "Title" header to sort by Title. Then you can easily locate duplicates, then select one and switch to Classic View to delete. --Foxworth 17:52, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Unknown Error 406 when i try to switch profiles
using version 2.1.0.12
I installed foxmarks on a new ubuntu system (with firefox 3b5). when it synced, i opted to use my profile named "Personal". When it was done it instead enabled all my bookmarks to be active in both my personal and work profiles. when i switched back to another machine using firefox 3.0.1 which was on my work profile, i re-set up my profiles so that the correct bookmarks/folders were in each profile. i switched to my personal profile since plain syncing wasnt reflecting my changes, and now when i try to switch back to my work profile i get a message saying "Unknown Error: 406" or something to that effect. I now can't switch to my work profile at all.

Obviously not a big deal, but cut+paste in the password field does not work while installing the IE plugin.
