Thanks for helping test the Foxmarks Favorites Synchronizer for Internet Explorer. Here are a few things to help you get started.

  • The current version is 0.8.65. If you have a problem and you're running an earlier version, please be sure to upgrade before proceeding; we may have already repaired the problem you're having. (Upgrades are available here.)
  • If you encounter a problem that isn't addressed below, please email us and let us know.

Known Bugs

  • Our synchronizer doesn't have full functionality when running while Vista's User Account Control is enabled. More information is available here.
  • We don't currently support Internet Explorer 8. If you run IE 8 with the Foxmarks Favorites Synchronizer you'll get a warning message that our synchronizer isn't compatible with IE 8.
  • Occasionally a URL is not automatically updated by IE after a sync. If you notice that any URL is not correct after a sync, restarting IE should fix it.

Fixed Bugs

  • Ahab triggers a Visual C++ debug assertion error that reads "invalid operator<"
  • We don't always order your Favorites correctly. IE's order information is stored in the Windows registry. We are able to read and write this information, but Internet Explorer doesn't always listen to us when we tell it to reorder something. This means we can attempt to write order the order to the registry, but we can never guarantee that IE respected our changes. Due to the these issues, we can't trust that the order information we read from the Windows registry actually matches the order that IE is displaying our Favorites in. To protect your account (and Firefox bookmarks) from accidental reorders caused by Internet Explorer we currently ignore all reorder commands generated by IE. Unfortunately this means that if you attempt to reorder your Favorites using IE's Favorite organizer and then do a sync, you won't see any changes.
  • We haven't done thorough testing with Unicode characters. Our basic testing shows that Unicode characters work well, but we'd love to get some help making sure that they do.
  • We have received one report of problems with Chinese characters
  • In certain circumstances, sometimes after a sync bookmarks and folders are displayed with a "(2)" appended at the end
  • If multiple instances of IE are started and then one is closed, Foxmarks sync may hang
  • Added support for Foxmarks profiles

Current Limitations

  • Firefox bookmarks include many features that don't have an equivalent in IE, such as keywords, separators and live titles. We will preserve your Firefox specific features when synchronizing with IE, but they won't be available to you in Internet Explorer.
  • Additionally, we don't support advanced IE features yet. For example, IE7 has a dedicated RSS sidebar. RSS feeds in that sidebar are not synchronized by our Favorites synchronizer.
  • A Favorite's favicon isn't currently displayed in the Favorites menu.
  • We do not currently support many of the more advanced features available in our Firefox client, such as synchronizing with your own server.
