To uninstall the Xmarks extension, do the following:

Contents

Firefox 2 and 3

  1. On the Firefox Tools menu, select Add-ons
  2. At the top of the window that opens, click Extensions.
  3. Find the item titled Xmarks and click it (if you have a lot of extensions installed, you may have to scroll to find it)
  4. Click the Uninstall button at the bottom of the window
  5. Firefox will ask you if you to confirm the de-installation; click OK
  6. Restart Firefox

Safari under OS X

  1. If you don't still have the original download for the software, download it again.
  2. Run the uninstall application included in the download.

If you're an OS X power user, you can try the manual uninstall process, too:

  1. Delete the Xmarks for Safari application.
  2. Delete the /Library/PreferencePanes/Xmarks.prefPane folder
  3. Delete ~/Library/Xmarks in your home directory (not strictly required)

Internet Explorer

  1. From the Windows Start menu, select "Control Panel".
  2. In the control panel find the uninstall icon (for Vista users it should say "Uninstall a program"; for 'XP' users it should say "Add / Remove Programs")
  3. Select "Xmarks Favorites Synchronizer" from the program list and click the uninstall button.

Alternatively, if you select "All Programs" from the Start Menu you should be able to navigate to the Xmarks folder. That folder includes an uninstall link.

If the uninstall process reports it cannot a valid installation package, you can download the older versions here (you will need to edit the version number in the URL): https://static.xmarks.com/clients/ie/xmarks-installer-for-ie-1.1.4.msi

Prior to Firefox 2

For earlier versions of Firefox, the procedure is slightly different:

  1. On the Firefox Tools menu, select Extensions
  2. In the window that opens, find the item titled Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer and click it (if you have a lot of extensions installed, you may have to scroll to find it)
  3. Click the Uninstall button at the bottom of the window
  4. Firefox will ask you if you to confirm the de-installation; click OK
  5. Restart Firefox
