Foxmarks: Sending us your Log File
From Foxmarks Wiki
If we ask you send us your log file to help us diagnose a problem, here's what you do:
Contents |
The easy way
An easy way to access your logfile is via your Foxmarks Settings window.
- In Firefox go to Tools > Foxmarks... > Settings
- In Internet Explorer, double click on the Foxmarks logo in your task bar
- In Safari, click on the Foxmarks icon, then select Foxmarks for Safari Settings
...then click on the "Advanced" tab, and click "Show Log File". This will open up your Foxmarks logfile in a new window, and you can copy-and-paste the last several dozen lines (or the last few transactions if you see something that looks like a separator with lots of dashes) into a text file or the body of your email to us. Note that we need that last chunk at the bottom of the file.
Fair warning: the logfile can be BIG. That's okay, but please don't try to send us the whole thing!! We just need to see the last few dozen lines at the bottom.
Locating your log file on the disk
Firefox
It's called foxmarks.log. It's kept in your Firefox profile directory. Windows NT/2000/XP users can typically find their profile here:
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\junk.default\
(Note that junk will vary for each user and system. Example: C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\abc1d2ef.default\)
Windows Vista users likely have a slightly different location:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\junk.default\
Macintosh users can typically find their log file by using spotlight to search for foxmarks.log.
Typically at this location:
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/junk.default/foxmarks.log
Otherwise, go to this page for more complete documentation on locating your profile.
Internet Explorer
The log file is stored in your Foxmarks user directory. To find this directory you'll need to open regedit. You can open regedit by opening the Start menu and typing regedit into the text box.
Once regedit is open you'll need to navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Foxmarks\IEToolbar\Settings
In that folder there should be a setting named userdir. Double click on the setting and copy the location. Hit cancel to close the dialog and then paste the location in Windows Explorer. There should be a file called foxmarkslog.txt in that directory.
Safari
The log file is stored in your home directory under Home: Library: Foxmarks: foxmarks.log.txt
Send it to us!
Email us your foxmarks log file as an attachment. (Note that if you cut & paste the file contents into the email instead of attaching it, it may be rejected as spam.)
