Contents

The Easy way: Start here

Firefox and Internet Explorer

Access your logfile via your Xmarks Settings window:

  • In Firefox go to Tools > Xmarks... > Settings
  • In Internet Explorer, double click on the Xmarks logo in your task bar

...then click on the "Advanced" tab, and click "Show Log File". This will open up your Xmarks logfile in a new window, and you can copy-and-paste the file into a text file or the body of your email to us.

Safari

Access your logfile via your Xmarks Settings window:

  • click on the Xmarks icon, then select Xmarks for Safari Settings
  • ...then click on the "Help" tab, and click "Debug Report". This will create a .zip file which you can easily email to us.

Chrome

There is no really easy way, but you can find instructions in the Xmarks Settings window:

  • Go to chrome://extensions and click the Options button to open the Settings window
  • Select the Advanced tab and look for instructions, or just see the instructions in the advanced section below

The Hard way: Locating your log file on the disk

Firefox

It's called xmarks.log. It's kept in your Firefox profile directory. Windows NT/2000/XP users can typically find their profile here:

%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\junk.default\

(Note that junk will vary for each user and system. Example: C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\abc1d2ef.default\)

Windows Vista users likely have a slightly different location:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\junk.default\

Macintosh users can typically find their log file by using spotlight to search for xmarks.log.

Typically at this location:

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/junk.default/xmarks.log

Otherwise, go to this page for more complete documentation on locating your profile.

Internet Explorer

The log file is stored in your Xmarks user directory. To find this directory you'll need to open regedit. You can open regedit by opening the Start menu and typing regedit into the text box.

Once regedit is open you'll need to navigate to:

 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xmarks\IEToolbar\Settings

In that folder there should be a setting named userdir. Double click on the setting and copy the location. Hit cancel to close the dialog and then paste the location in Windows Explorer. There should be a file called xmarkslog.txt in that directory.

Safari

The log file is stored in your home directory under Home: Library: Xmarks: xmarks.log.txt

Chrome

To see log output, go to chrome://extensions/ and click the link to inspect the background.html view for Xmarks. (Note: if you don't see the option to inspect anything, you'll need to click the "Developer mode" link in the top right first.) Our log data is printed to the console, which can be toggled using the buttons at the bottom of the inspector. Any Chrome errors will be printed in red.

Send it to us!

Email us your xmarks log file as an attachment. (Note that if you cut & paste the file contents into the email instead of attaching it, it may be rejected as spam.)
